Tina Knowles Posts, Then Deletes, Pic of Solange and Jay Z Chilling in an Elevator

Mother knows best — or at least Mother knows when Mother made a mistake and needs to backtrack. On Monday, Nov. 7, Tina Knowles posted — and then deleted — a snapshot of Solange and Jay Z riding in an elevator together, most likely because the momager realized that the Instagram pic would bring back memories of the now infamous beatdown Solange gave her brother-in-law back in 2014.

To be fair, the recent photo was not only of Solange and Jay Z. In the candid snap, Solange and Beyoncé’s better half aren’t even paying attention to each other. Instead, they’re both beaming at Solange’s son, Daniel Julez Smith, Jr. (who seems about excited for the attention as your average 12-year-old boy would be). The shot appeared to be taken on Saturday night when Solange celebrated her new album, A Seat at the Table, by performing on Saturday Night Live with her family in tow.

Despite the obvious sweetness of this moment, Mama Knowles decided it best not to run the risk of bringing up the past. ICYMI (or blacked it out), after the überglam Met Gala in May 2014, Solange was caught on security tapes going postal on Jay Z in an elevator at the Standard Hotel, allegedly because he had stepped out on her sister. In the footage, Solange could be seen lashing at the rapper as a bodyguard tried to hold her back. (In other words, it was not her finest moment.)

In an effort to do damage control, the next day they issued a statement explaining, “As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.”

Worked through it they have, if the newly posted (and deleted) shot of Solange and Jay Z making nice in the elevator is any indication. For what it’s worth, Tina probably could have just left this one up — though Solange’s son is probably happy that Grandma didn’t.
