With or without the other members of One Direction by his side, Harry Styles is a heartthrob. The 22-year-old ex of Taylor Swift, Lindsay Lohan, and others has got the girls, the fame, and most definitely the hair.

Styles’s locks have been a topic of conversation ever since he became star, but they’ve really outdone themselves this week. The pop rocker tried out not one, not two, but three different ‘dos for a trio of covers for the new issue of Another Man magazine. The photos are inspired by rock gods of the past.

The first cover features Styles sporting his current short hairstyle. While some say this look was inspired by the ’80s, we’re not totally seeing it. (Do you?)

The second cover depicts Styles as a boy bander who looks a little like a young Paul McCartney or Mick Jagger from the ’60s.

On a third cover, Styles could definitely pass for a ’70s Mick Jagger.

The magazine shared an interior image that also was very similar to one of the Rolling Stones frontman. As Teen Vogue pointed out, the photo seemed to depict the very moment last May that Styles chopped off his long hair for charity.

Who would’ve thought the One Direction member on the right had such a diverse future ahead of him? (Besides his hairstylist, of course.)

Styles and his mane have quite a bright future ahead of them too. The hair’s presumably growing, and Styles is working on his first solo album and just filmed a role in next summer’s Christopher Nolan WWII drama, Dunkirk.

The future of Styles’s former band One Direction is looking considerably more bleak, based on his interview inside the mag, conducted by Paul McCartney and Chelsea Handler.

“I would never say we’ll never do anything ever again but it’s good for us to be exploring different things,” he said. “Maybe at some point everyone will want to do something again but it’ll be better if it happens naturally like, ‘Hey, we all really want to do this again.’ If that were to happen it would be amazing. I would never rule that out. It’s the most important, greatest thing that ever happened to me, being in that band. It completely changed my life.”

No matter what happens with the band, the solo album, or the movie, Styles should sleep well — and very still, so as not to muss his tresses — knowing that he can always fall back on work as a hair model.
