There Is a New Suspect in the 'Making A Murderer' Case
Steven Avery's new lawyer, Kathleen Zellner, who joined his case in January of this year, claims to have an alternate suspect for the murder of Teresa Halbach, a photographer whom Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey were convicted.
In light of Dassey's conviction being overturned, Avery and his lawyer have new hope that the same will happen for him. They will file an appeal later this month. Their plan is to re-test DNA evidence that appears to point to Avery: blood found in Halbach's car, Avery's DNA on the hood of the car, Halbach's DNA on a bullet from Avery's garage, and Avery's DNA on a key to Halbach's car found in his bedroom.

"There is evidence that already exists in the case that points to a different location and a different suspect," Zellner said. "We've got a combination of forensic evidence and a tip from somebody that we've interviewed multiple times that we think is credible."
Zellner believes that new testing could show that the evidence against Avery was planted-a theory that the Netflix documentary series focused on. Zellner will not reveal the identity of the suspect but believes the new DNA testing may expose the real killer.
How soon will we know the results? Zellner says the tests could be completed within 60 days, adding, "It may not all be successful, but I believe if even one bit of evidence is planted, the conviction is going to be vacated."
Since Making a Murderer showrunners Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardi have confirmed they are making a second season of the show, this new twist should ensure it will be a fascinating watch.
