Susan Sarandon Backtracks on Comments Suggesting She Would Support Donald Trump for President Over Hillary Clinton

Fervent Bernie Sanders supporter Susan Sarandon sure made it sound like she would support Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton if it came down to those two choices in the 2016 presidential election during a Monday interview with MSNBC’s Chris Hayes.
Sarandon, 69, quickly clarified her remarks over Twitter, after two of her fellow actresses called her out. Jamie Lee Curtis was the first. Debra Messing had a lengthy exchange with Sarandon that continued into Wednesday.

For the record, most of Sarandon’s comments were against frontrunner Clinton, and how she’s not a substitute for the progressive Sanders because Clinton doesn’t believe what he believes.
“She’s accepted money from all those [Wall Street] people,” Sarandon said. “She doesn’t even want to fight for a $15 minimum wage.”

The Thelma and Louise star added that many Sanders supporters are first-time voters she suspects won’t show up at the polls to support another candidate on Election Day.
“These are people that have not come out before, so why would we think they would come out now for her?” she asked. Sanders supporters, she added, consider the secretary of state to be “a liar.”

When Hayes pressed Sarandon on whether she personally would support Clinton if she won the Democratic nomination, she gave a coy smile. “I don’t know,” she said. “I’m gonna see what happens.”
“Really?” Hayes asked.
“Well, you know, some people feel Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately,” Sarandon said. “If he gets in, then things will really explode.”
