New Surveillance Video Shows Slain N.Y.C. Jogger on Her Final Run Before Being Strangled

Newly released surveillance video shows slain New York City jogger Karina Vetrano on Aug. 2, running into the Queens park where she was found dead later that same day.

In the footage, captured by a security camera around 5:46 p.m. that Tuesday and released Monday by Crime Watch Daily with Chris Hansen, Vetrano briefly runs down a road and past a parked car. She is wearing athletic sneakers, a sports bra and black shorts.

Vetrano’s body was found in Spring Creek Park around 11 p.m. on Aug. 2, about a dozen feet from a jogging trail she used daily, according to police.

The 30-year-old was sexually assaulted and strangled after putting up a “ferocious fight,” investigators previously revealed. They further believe Vetrano bit her attacker, because her teeth showed signs of cracking.

The surveillance video was released with permission from Vetrano’s family, New York City Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Monday, according to CBS New York.

“It was provided as part of the continuing effort, along with the rewards, to try and find out what happened on that day,” Bratton said.

While no suspect has been named, police said that they have developed a DNA profile of Vetrano’s killer using DNA that was recovered from her phone, neck and under her fingernails. None of the DNA evidence has returned a match from criminal databases.

Robert Boyce, the New York Police Department’s chief of detectives, told Crime Watch Daily that Vetrano’s father, ex-boyfriend and a recent male acquaintance have all been cleared of involvement.

Boyce also said that around 200 surveillance videos have been viewed in relation to the case. As a result, detectives have narrowed their search for information to a bicycle path that runs along the Belt Parkway.

In late August, police released a composite sketch of a possible witness to Vetrano’s killing.

At the time, authorities said the man depicted in the sketch – who was on a pathway at the north end of the park – may have seen something that could help them solve the case.

A police spokesperson told PEOPLE that the man is not considered a suspect, but only someone with vital information that could lead them to Vetrano’s killer.

Vetrano’s family have offered a nearly $300,000 reward to her killer’s family if they come forward.
