Supergirl: How Calista Flockhart's new role will affect the show

Wondering how Calista Flockhart's new role will shake things up on Supergirl?

When the super series moved from CBS to The CW, production moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver, raising the question of how much the L.A.-based actress would appear in season 2. The answer: She'll now be a recurring guest-star.

Supergirl will actually lean into the fact that Flockhart will now have a reduced role on the series in the storylines. "Part of what’s happening in the office is addressing Cat’s absence and who’s stepping up to the plate to take her place," executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said at the Television Critics Association's press tour on Thursday.

"Calista is such a large presence on the show and such an important one to both us as writers and also to the characters," he continued. "So taking her out definitely leaves a vacuum and watching different people try to fill her role is the story."

Among the new characters who could be jockeying for power include Snapper Carr (Ian Gomez), who is the editor-in-chief of CatCo Magazine.

In other Supergirl news, there will be a musical crossover with The Flash, Sharon Leal has been tapped to play Miss Martian, and Chris Wood was revealed to be playing Mon-El.

Supergirl returns Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
