Super Kitty Survives Tumble from 6th Floor Window, Needs Forever Home

Wonder Woman seems like a suitable nickname for Nora.

The 6-month-old feline survived a steep fall from a sixth floor window last week.

The death-defying kitty didn’t walk away unscathed, however. Her fall onto a busy Boston street left her with a traumatic brain injury, as well as lung and facial trauma – but she’s expected to be just fine.

Nora is one of about 10 cats that have come into the care of Boston’s Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in the last two months after having fallen from windows.

It’s called high rise syndrome, and sadly, it’s a very common occurrence this time of year, the shelter says, as the temperatures rise.

“Cats falling from great heights is especially common during the summer months as people have their doors and windows open due to the heat,” said MSPCA-Angell adoption center manager Alyssa Krieger. “We’re taking her recovery day by day and will be announcing her availability for adoption in the coming weeks.”

The injured cat, who was surrendered to the shelter by her owner, spent the first 48 hours in a special oxygenated cage in MSPCA Angell’s emergency unit to help her breathe. She was released from the veterinary hospital and her care continues in the adoption center next door.

The cat’s next home requires securely fastened window screens, so she can’t fall again. Her recovery is expected to take about two more weeks (see Nora’s healing eye in the video above).
