Solo Stars at the Golden Globes: Where Were Sofía Vergara, Reese Witherspoon, and Carrie Underwood’s Hubbies?
Lots of celebrity couples enjoyed date nights at Sunday’s Golden Globes, with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, and Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard being some of the most buzzed-about pairs. But some famous better halves didn’t make it to the big show, and we got to the bottom of where they were…
Sofía Vergara is fresh off 12 different vacations with hubby-of-one-year Joe Manganiello, so she probably didn’t mind going her own way on Globes night. She sparkled solo at the event — and had some girl time with Priyanka Chopra at the Warner Bros. and InStyle afterparty to talk about their equally glitzy outfits.
So where was Joe? It was Sunday during NFL’s postseason, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were still alive, so the whereabouts of Deathstroke were no big mystery. He was in his hometown with his brother enjoying the game — and a Steelers win. He even got to go on the field, so we doubt he was sweating missing another awards show.

Reese Witherspoon was a vision in yellow (again!) on the carpet and took us through her prep process on Instagram. One of the best Boomerangs of the evening was her little champagne shimmy. But she wasn’t sipping solo at the show. While she posed alone for the photo pool on the GG red carpet, and arrived holding hands with Nicole Kidman at the HBO bash, her talent agent husband of nearly six years, Jim Toth, was on the scene — both at the awards show and the parties.
Carrie Underwood‘s plus-one seemed to be that bulky, frilly neckline on her dress, which people had strong opinions about. So where was Mike Fisher? On the ice. The pro hockey player is the captain of the Nashville Predators, and they played the Chicago Blackhawks in Chi-Town on Sunday night.
FTR, Fisher probably wishes he had been in Hollywood. Not only did his team lose 2-5, but he was injured during the game after blocking a shot, though he later returned to the ice.
Sarah Paulson once again celebrated a big win without her love, Holland Taylor, by her side. (Taylor didn’t accompany her to the Emmys either.) The People v. O.J. Simpson star’s date for the night was her old friend Amanda Peet, a co-star from way back in their Jack & Jill days. Peet, who’s married to Game of Thrones honcho David Benioff, shared a smooch with her pal on the red carpet.
And Holland, who is currently starring on Broadway in The Front Page (no nights off, folks!), gave Paulson a few Twitter shout-outs.
A shimmering, spectacular, singular sensation…!!!

And after Paulson won…
Again… How not?

While Kaley Cuoco posed alone for some shots on the red carpet at the Amazon party, she wasn’t running solo. Her boyfriend, Karl Cook, was most definitely her date for the evening.
The Big Bang Theory star’s man was also by her side as she got ready for the event — and, um, showed off her golden globes. (Her wording, not ours.)

Sarah Jessica Parker was with her fake braids and without her husband, Matthew Broderick, last night. After nearly 20 years of marriage (this May!), she often hits the red carpet without her mister, often bringing along another date (Andy Cohen?) instead. But let’s be honest — she couldn’t have swirled in her dress on the red carpet if she had a date last night. And that was some swirl.
And while some solo attendees headed home right after the show (we’re looking at you, Carrie Underwood), SJP got her party on. At the HBO party, she was pretty adorable hanging with Nicole Kidman and Reese, whose dates were off doing their own thing.
Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy are always a cute pair at these kinds of events (like they were at the Critics’ Choice Awards in December), but this year (and last) she was nominated solo and attended the show that way. It’s unclear why he wasn’t there to support her (maybe he was miffed he wasn’t nominated for Shameless — or didn’t want to talk about the Emmy Rossum-Shameless pay drama?), but on the red carpet the American Crime Story actress talked about how he made drinks for her — and her glam crew — while she got ready.
On the red carpet, she said her secret to looking so young is “probably being married to William H. Macy,” and when asked if their (nearly) 20 years of marriage were happy ones, she replied, “Very much so.”
Jenna Dewan had a night out without “Chan,” hubby Channing Tatum…
But she was definitely on his mind because he posted a nude photo of her on Instagram earlier in the day, while she was napping.
Nap time = The Best Time ????????????

And finally Ryan Gosling. Last night he gave a sweet mention to his “lady,” Eva Mendes, during his acceptance speech, but they have never walked a red carpet together — and are very rarely photographed in the same frame — so expect to see them out together at an event … never.
Now check out some of the pretty pairs who did hit the show together:
