Simon Cowell Says His Son Thinks He Pushes Buzzers for a Living

Simon Cowell excels at being a judge, but it took him a while to get the hang of parenthood. Fortunately, he’s now got the whole dad thing down.

When The Insider With Yahoo caught up with the new America’s Got Talent star to talk about his latest gig, he couldn’t help but gush about fatherhood and his 2-year-old son, Eric, with girlfriend Lauren Silverman.

“He’s a cutie,” Cowell, 56, said of his only child. “When he was a baby, it was quite difficult because I didn’t know how to communicate. I’m not great with babies. I like talking to kids, but babies I don’t know what to do. … So when he was crying, I kept saying to Lauren, ‘I don’t think he likes me,’ and she said, ‘Eventually you’ll get it.’ Then one day everything clicked.”

The Brit, who says fatherhood hasn’t changed him much, enjoys teaching his son valuable lessons.

“I taught him how to share, say please, say thank you. We share our stuff together, we watch movies together,” Cowell said. “He’s adorable, but he’s very cheeky, and he thinks he could get away with murder already.”

Cowell also dished on the best part of being a dad.

“They sort of become you,” he said. “They become a mini you, and they talk like you, and their expressions are the same.”

As for the worst part of parenting? The bad TV.

“There’s only a couple things I won’t watch with him,” Cowell shared. “There’s something called Dora the Explorer. I mean, seriously.”
