Shawn Booth Says He and Kaitlyn Bristowe 'Stay Away from' Bachelor-Related Shows

They may have found love on The Bachelorette, but after the cameras stopped rolling, Shawn Booth and Kaitlyn Bristowe haven't been tuning in.

"[We] closed the door," Booth told PEOPLE at the Bravest & Finest Workout at New York Sports Club in honor of First Responders Appreciation Month. "It's too much anxiety on Monday nights. After going through that and seeing what happens, what goes on, it's tough to watch."

He adds, "We kind of stay away from it."

But the one thing – or rather, one person – who could get them to watch again? Chad Johnson, who has quickly become the franchise's most notorious villain.

"I did pull up some clips on YouTube to see what everyone was talking about," admits Booth, 29. "He's a former Marine, so I was pulling for him. It's tough to judge people on a TV show, but Chad seems like an interesting character."

Though they've kept The Bachelorette (and The Bachelor and Bachelor in Paradise) off their screens at home, Booth says there haven't been any shocks for him and Bristowe, 31, since filming wrapped.

"We always say we used the show to meet each other, and we started dating after the show," he says. "You really start to know each other after the show, and luckily for us, it's worked out. There have been no big surprises."

And really, he says, since their season of The Bachelorette, their relationship has only gotten stronger.

"Our relationship grew after the show and continues to grow," "That's the real test, a few months after the show, living with each other. Then you really find out who the person is – and she's amazing."

As for the next step – their (much-anticipated!) wedding – Booth says they're still in no rush, and haven't yet started planning.

In fact, we all might want to stop asking them about it: Booth says that people asking them about any upcoming wedding plans.

"We're just so crazy busy and we're enjoying being engaged," he said. "The more pressure, the more we're like 'Well, we're not going to do it now!' "

"We'll do it when the time is right," he says.

But he did leave us with one little hint: "Hopefully, by the end of the year, we'll start planning."
