A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, people only asked classmates or that kid down the street to accompany them to prom or other fancy events requiring really uncomfortable shoes and a date. But then the Internet came along, YouTube and social media were invented, and now anyone asks anyone, including that celebrity they’ve never even met.

Cut to last month, when Star Wars moviegoer Kevin Carlock got a jumpstart on what’s become an annual tradition of regular people asking their favorite stars to be their plus-ones. Carlock posted a video asking Daisy Ridley, who plays “Rey” in the latest installments of the blockbuster franchise, to attend his spring formal at Davidson College in North Carolina. His creative effort included a rap — “Kylo Ren’s not invited, you’ve got nothing to fear” — as well as a lightsaber battle and dance moves that would make ‘90s boy bands envious.

The actress has finally revealed her answer and, unfortunately for Carlock, it’s a no. But she did it in a way that was sweet and just as cheeky as his YouTube clip.

“Your video made my day! Can’t believe I only just saw it! Thank you!!!” she posted Tuesday on Instagram. The accompanying photo showed her holding up a note for the Star Wars die-hard, who surely understands that she’s busy filming 2017’s Star Wars: Episode VIII.
