Sarah Paulson wins best actress in a limited series at the Golden Globes for ‘The People v. O.J.’
After playing everyone from a young Dr. Ellis Grey on Grey’s Anatomy to the evil Mistress Epps in 12 Years a Slave, Sarah Paulson has officially earned her first Golden Globe.
Paulson won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her multi-dimensional portrayal of Marcia Clark in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story at the 74th Golden Globes in Los Angeles Sunday.
Paulson thanked her costars, who she called “a merry band of gypsies” and the entire team behind The People v. O.J. in her speech, which also included a shout-out to Clark. “You are an inspiration to me,” she said.
Ryan Murphy’s critically acclaimed take on the most infamous murder trial of the ’90s finds Paulson channeling district attorney Marcia Clark, who endured sexism and intense pressure as the nation watched her attempt to convince a jury that football legend O.J. Simpson murdered his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman.
“I think it helped people realize how misguided they were in their assessments of Marcia,” Paulson told EW of her performance after the Golden Globe nominations were announced in December. “And I feel very proud to be associated with that shift. I think it’s given her some peace, knowing that people do recognize that they got it wrong and they feel regretful about it and have said it publicly, to her in person.”
Paulson’s performance in the FX anthology series previously earned her an Emmy and Critics’ Choice Television Award in 2016.
Paulson beat an impressive group of fellow nominees at the Globes, including Felicity Huffman (American Crime), Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience), Charlotte Rampling (London Spy), and Kerry Washington (Confirmation). Lady Gaga won the award in 2016 for her role in American Horror Story: Hotel.
