Rachel Bilson Talks About Motherhood for the 1st Time

Rachel Bilson and fiancé Hayden Christensen welcomed their little girl into the world on Oct. 29, 2014, but it wasn’t until now that the new mom opened up about motherhood. The 34-year-old and fellow actress Kristen Bell were named No Kid Hungry’s newest No Kid Hungry Champions and on Wednesday night, the actress spoke about how her daughter, Briar Rose, inspired her to get involved with Share Our Strength’s Annual Event.

“I’m a new mom…ish,” the Hart of Dixie star said to a star-studded audience. "She’s almost 1, which is crazy. But you kind of feel like a mom to all kids at this point. Finding out that so many kids in our country are hungry is just not OK. So, getting involved was very important to us.”

Earlier in the night, Bilson echoed her sentiment to E! News: “I am a mother in real life,” she said on the red carpet. “You kind of feel like you take on mothering all children, so it’s so important to know that you’re children are fed. It’s a little thing that can go over your head, but it’s so important. Kids who are going to school hungry, they’re not absorbing information as well, and their education isn’t benefiting as much as it could. … They’re trying to help kids, and having these programs where they eat, they can achieve their goals even better because they’re well fed and because they can focus.”

As for her little one, Bilson gushed, “She’s doing good. She’s a smart little girl — very active.”
