Eileen Brennan, who appeared on TV and in films, died July 28 at the age of 80. Nominated for an Academy Award for her role as Captain Doreen Lewis in 1980's "Private Benjamin" (she memorably gave Goldie Hawn a hard time in the flick), she also left an impression as Mrs. Peacock in 1985's "Clue" and Billie (opposite Paul Newman) in 1973's "The Sting." Her work on TV was celebrated as well. She reprised her role as Captain Lewis when "Private Benjamin" was made into a TV show, collecting Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her performance. Later roles on "Newhart," "Thirtysomething,"and "Will & Grace" were also well received. A breast cancer survivor, Brennan died from bladder cancer, passing away at her Burbank, California, home, surrounded by family.
