Don Corneilius

TV news reporter Don Cornelius took his TV dance show "Soul Train" from a local Chicago program to a national syndicated series in 1971 and brought plenty of African-American musicians -- including Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, and Aretha Franklin -- into living rooms around the country the show's during its 35-year-run. On February 1, Cornelius was found dead from an self-inflicted gunshot wound inside his home. The 75-year-old had reportedly been suffering from health problems including early onset Alzheimer's disease.
