The Friars Foundation 2013 Applause Award Gala Honoring Don Rickles
Connecticut: John Mayer
Birthplace: Bridgeport
Fun Fact: After graduating from Fairfield High School, which was the inspiration for his 2002 hit "No Such Thing" (meaning: he didn't exactly love it), Mayer's classmates went off to college and he took a job pumping gas at local Stratfield Service Station. His hourly salary? $7. "I bought my first real guitar from working here," the 35-year-old guitarist and songwriter, who held the job for 15 months before heading to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, told ABC News in 2003. "That's the one real kind of holdover from my old life to my new life. I have a guitar onstage that I'm playing in front of 20,000 people that I have played in my [childhood] bedroom."
