P!nk to receive Video Vanguard Award, perform at VMAs
P!nk’s comeback will take center stage at the VMAs.
MTV announced Tuesday that the singer will receive the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at this year’s VMAs. She’ll be presented with the honor during the Katy Perry-hosted ceremony, which is set for Sunday, Aug. 27 at The Forum in L.A. P!nk has won six VMAs in her career, including the Video of the Year prize in 2001 for “Lady Marmalade.”
Last week, P!nk returned with a new single, “What About Us,” which MTV said she will perform at the VMAs.
P!nk also recently announced Beautiful Trauma, her sixth LP and the follow-up to 2012’s The Truth About Love. The album arrives Oct. 13.
The Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award — MTV’s equivalent of a lifetime achievement honor — recognizes success in music, fashion, film, and philanthropy. Though MTV created the award in 1984 and named it after the King of Pop in 1991, the network rarely awarded it in the ’00s. That’s changed of late: Recent recipients of the award include Justin Timberlake (2013), Beyoncé (2014), Kanye West (2015), and Rihanna (2016). In 2015, West used his acceptance speech to announce his 2020 candidacy for president, while Rihanna’s 2016 speech included a lustful cameo from Drake.
