‘OITNB’ Star Kate Mulgrew Claims She Was Born With Teeth and Kept in a Cage

You most likely know Kate Mulgrew from her beloved role on Orange Is the New Black as Russian prison cook Galina “Red” Reznikov. Or maybe you were a fan of Mulgrew as Captain Kathryn Janeway in the ‘90s TV series, Star Trek: Voyager. But regardless of how you became familiar with the 61-year-old actress, it seems there may still be a lot you don’t know about her.

On Thursday, Mulgrew sat down with Lorraine Kelly on the U.K.’s ITV and revealed a few interesting tidbits about her early years.

“I was born with a set of perfect teeth,” she said. The Iowa native went on to explain that “they’re very dangerous because the baby can swallow them,” and said that her mom had a “guy come and take [her] teeth out."

But the jaw-dropping details didn’t end there.

Mulgrew went on to tell the host that she was kept in a cage because she "had no sense of pain until [she] was 4 years old.” Yes, you read that correctly!
