Officer Injured in Recent Shooting Threw 1st Pitch
Exactly one week ago, a shooter targeted a GOP congressional baseball practice. Four people, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, were injured; it's likely there would've been more casualties if Capitol Police hadn't stepped in. And on Wednesday, one of the officers who responded to the scene threw out the first pitch at the Congressional Women's Softball Game.
Special Agent Crystal Griner is still in a wheelchair; a bullet caught her ankle, and she's still recovering. But she made it onto the pitch, wheelchair, injury, and all, with her wife by her side. Naturally, she received a hero's welcome:

Griner, along with fellow officers David Bailey and Henry Cabrera, received special commendations for their actions in the immediate aftermath of the Congressional practice shooting. Both Griner and Bailey sustained injuries; both were also familiar faces on Congressman Scalise's security detail, with his wife Jennifer sharing that they "have been family to us for years."
This is the 8th annual Congressional Women's Softball Game, which benefits the Young Survival Coalition, an organization which raises money and awareness for young women with breast cancer.
