‘I Saw The Light’ Toronto Clip: First Look At Tom Hiddleston Singin’ Hank Williams

A British actor walks into a recording studio to sing a country music legend’s first hit. How does he do? You be the judge of this first clip of Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams in the biopic I Saw The Light. The actor re-creates the April 1947 session in Nashville that produced “Move It On Over,” which established Williams on the radio and paved the way for his short but brilliant and enduringly influential career. Rock fans will recognize the tune from George Thorogood and the Destroyers’ oft-played 1978 cover.

Hiddleston tweeted the footage, which also includes a glimpse of Williams’ domestic life, this morning:

Marc Abraham wrote and directed I Saw The Light, which has its world premiere Friday at the Toronto Film Festival, and Sony Pictures Classics opens it in theaters on Thanksgiving weekend.

So what do you think — does the Londoner pull off the hard-livin’ Alabama icon’s look, arching shoulders and, most important, that voice?
