Be careful what you wish for! Just one day after Us Weekly exclusively confirmed that the highly anticipated 'N Sync reunion would definitely be taking place at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the boy band came out with an official Twitter account on Saturday, Aug. 24.
"Mic check, mic check one.. two... is this thing on?!" the first tweet simply read.
The account immediately started a frenzy, and quickly gained thousands of followers. The profile -- urging fans to follow members Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Chris Kirkpatrick, Joey Fatone and Lance Bass -- officially got verified two hours later.
Timberlake also shared a part of his performance outfit via Instagram within the same hour of the Twitter surprise. "Counting down to the VMAs," he captioned with a picture of his white and silver shoes.
'N Sync is expected to perform "Bye Bye Bye" from their 2000 album No Strings Attached and "will reenact some of their greatest videos in a medley," a source told Us of the reunion. "Then Justin will sing his new song 'Take Back the Night' and get his [Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award]."
The group's last television performance was during a Grammy Awards tribute to the Bee Gees in 2003 -- three years before Twitter even existed. The social site was created in March 2006.
The MTV Video Music Awards air live on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 9 p.m. EST.
