Forget about the 1 percent or the 99 percent. This week, "47 percent" in the most buzzed-about number in politics, after Republican Presidential nominee Mitt Romney was quoted in a private fundraiser earlier this year with wealthy donors -- and some folks in Hollywood are less than impressed. "There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what," Romney, 65, said in a newly-released, widely discussed recording. "All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what . . . These are people who pay no income tax."
Added the former Massachusetts governor: "[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."
In response, many celebs took to Twitter to weigh in on the surprising quotes. "Romney does not want to represent ALL Americans just the rich ones," Eva Longoria, who spoke for President Obama at the Democratic National Convention two weeks ago, wrote. "Unbelievable!"
Ashley Judd opined: "Really, Romney? You believe that? & you said it out loud? Oh dear. You do, & you did . . ."It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation." On Romney declaring 47% r victims."
Retweeting comments from other Twitter pals on the controversy, Kristen Bell said simply: "WTF?" She agreed with a follower who said, "Liberal or conservative, someone who wants to be our leader needs to have just a shred of respect. #disgusting"
"Whoops!" joked Glee's Cory Monteith of the gaffe.
Quipped Chris Rock: "Mitt Romney, the guy who pays no taxes on millions of dollars thinks you're a welfare freeloader. God Bless 47% of America! #RomneyEncore"
