Michelle Williams tends to stick to black and white on the red carpet, but that all changed at the 84th Annual Academy Awards in L.A. Sunday.
Wearing a strapless gown by Louis Vuitton with peplum detail, the 31-year-old actress joked that she couldn't pinpoint the exact color of her dress. "It's some sort of fruit," E! News' Ryan Seacrest said.
"Pomegranate?" suggested the My Week With Marilyn actress, who accessorized with Forevermark diamonds. "We'll leave it to [the E! Fashion Police.]"
Williams is nominated in the best actress category alongside Viola Davis (The Help), Glenn Close (Albert Nobbs), Rooney Mara (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) and Meryl Streep (The Iron Lady).
Portraying famous blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe was no easy task for Williams. "I didn't have that great of an impression of her before I made the movie. I didn't even know much about her. I filled her in," the actress explained. "She was funnier than you would imagine. She was smarter than you would imagine. She was sadder than you would imagine."
"I had a lot of learning to do," Williams added. "I asked for a lot of time before we started shooting the movie, so I knew that I could get my work done in 10 months."
Williams' portrayal was recently praised by Oscar winner Kate Winslet, which humbled the Brooklyn-based star. "I'm so crazy about her. That's been the greatest compliment maybe I've ever gotten in my life," Williams gushed. "I admire her. She's sort of made a path and the rest of us get to follow in it."
