Katie Couric has revealed that she struggled with bulimia in her teens and 20s while attending the University of Virginia.

"I wrestled with bulimia all through college and for two years after that," Couric said on Monday's episode of "Katie," which included guest Demi Lovato, who also battled the eating disorder.

"I know this rigidity, this feeling that if you eat one thing that's wrong, you're full of self-loathing and then you punish yourself," the 55-year-old continued. "Whether it's one cookie or a stick of gum that isn't sugarless, that I would sometimes beat myself up for that."

Adding, "How do you have a healthy relationship with food, and say, 'You know what, I can have one cookie and it's OK?' That is such a huge thing for people who wrestle with this."

Couric previously told Access Hollywood's Billy Bush that she would open up about her own life when it was relevant to her new daytime talk show.

"I'll share, I don't want to overshare, but I'll talk a little bit about my life, particularly when its germane to something we're discussing," she told Billy at the time.
