Adam Levine may be pals with fellow "The Voice" coach Blake Shelton, but that hasn't squashed his desire to crush the country crooner in the competition and win Season 4.
"I need to shut his mouth," Adam told AccessHollywood.com's Laura Saltman, in an exclusive new interview on the reality series' set as filming begins on the new season. "I need to win so I can shut his face."
Blake has so far won the show twice (Adam won the first season, Blake the last two), and the Maroon 5 singer is feeling super competitive.
"I just want him to fail. It has less to do with my success. I just want to see him lose," he said.
Adam said he and Blake are the same as ever as they sit in the those big red "The Voice" chairs judging, but Shakira and Usher, who joined the show at the end of 2012 for the pre-taped audition rounds, have helped to shake things up.
"Same old me and Blake, same old thing," he said. "Shakira and Usher have been fantastic. I know that Usher, he's going to get crazy competitive, which I love. I love that. Shakira is finding her way. Don't underestimate Shakira. She's got claws... Good, competitive claws."
Adam has a little help this season from Lady Antebellum's Hillary Scott, who is assisting in mentoring the Team Adam contestants.
"This has been really, really an amazing experience," Hillary said of her time so far, helping the contestants out. "I was honored to get the call and to be on Adam's team which I think is gonna surprise a lot of people that it wasn't Blake, being that he's a country artist as well."
Hillary is no stranger to singing competitions. She tried out for "American Idol" twice, and she learned some valuable advice from getting rejected - not to give up on her dream.
"Yeah, don't let just one word get thrown in your face," she said. "Don't give up. If it's really what you're supposed to be doing there's gonna be more than just that way."
"The Voice" Season 4 premieres March 25 at 8/7c on NBC.
