MTV Star and BMX Legend Dave Mirra Dead at 41 in Apparent Suicide, Hours After Posting Throwback Snaps on Instagram

BMX Legend Dave Mirra Had the Brain Disease CTE, Doctors Say

Pro-BMX star Dave Mirra was found dead on Thursday evening from an apparent suicide. He was 41.

According to a press release posted on the Greenville Police Department's Facebook page, Mirra was found in his car around 4 p.m. with what police are calling a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"We mourn the loss today of a great friend and wonderful human being who touched the lives of so many around the world with his gift," the City of Greenville Mayor, Allen Thomas said. "He called Greenville, North Carolina home and was a humble guy talking with kids on a street corner about bikes as he was in his element on the world stage. Mirra is survived by his wife and two children.
