Prince Harry’s new girlfriend, Suits star Meghan Markle, has asked to take some time off after being thrust into the international spotlight.

According to Page Six, the 35-year-old actress told her bosses at USA Network she needed to skip filming this week because she has “something important to do.” Insiders believe she is meeting with lawyers to help manage her sudden rise to fame.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry, 32, made his first official appearance, on Thursday, since confirming his new romance. Harry — who served two tours in Afghanistan — attended the Field of Remembrance service at Westminster Abbey to pay his respects to veterans.

On Tuesday, Princess Diana’s son issued an unprecedented statement confirming his relationship status, while also slamming the racist and sexist abuse Markle has endured.

“His girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has been subject to a wave of abuse and harassment,” Harry’s communication secretary said. “Some of this has been very public — the smear on the front page of a national newspaper; the racial undertones of comment pieces; and the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web article comments. Some of it has been hidden from the public — the nightly legal battles to keep defamatory stories out of papers…”

The statement continued, “Prince Harry is worried about Ms. Markle’s safety and is deeply disappointed that he has not been able to protect her. It is not right that a few months into a relationship with him that Ms. Markle should be subjected to such a storm. He knows commentators will say this is ‘the price she has to pay’ and that ‘this is all part of the game.’ He strongly disagrees. This is not a game — it is her life and his.”

The prince and actress/activist have been dating seriously for about two months. Markle has yet to speak out about the wave of harassment and criticism.
