Luke Perry Talks About Shannen Doherty at 90210 Reunion: ‘She’s Been Through a Lot’
Luke Perry shared his appreciation for his former on-screen flame Shannen Doherty, who was noticeably absent from the Beverly Hills, 90210 reunion at REwind Con in Bloomingdale, Illinois, on Saturday.
The actor, 50, addressed the crowd alongside fellow cast members Jennie Garth, Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Gabrielle Carteris, Christine Elise and Vincent Young.
“None of us are up here today without Shannen,” Perry, who played Doherty’s character Brenda’s love interest on the hit ’90s show. “She’s been through a lot. She’s not doing well right now but sometimes her contributions are minimized.”
“She’s been thrown under the bus,” he continued. “I’ve been accused of driving it. But she’s a very big part of the success of this show. She taught me a lot. I’m glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me.”

Doherty, 45, has been battling breast cancer since her diagnosis in February 2015. She started another round of chemotherapy in August and has been chronicling her recovery on Instagram. She most recently spoke out about her battle in an interview with Entertainment Tonight at the American Cancer Society’s Inaugural Giants of Science Gala last Saturday, when she offered advice to Michael Bublé after hearing that his son had been diagnosed with cancer.
“Stay positive,” she recommended. “That positivity, that outlook on life that you can get through something, it actually does get you through.”
