A Look at Larry King's Eight Past Marriages – and the Trouble with His Current One

Amid allegations that his wife of 19 years is having an affair, Larry King is distraught, sources confirm to PEOPLE.

The television personality is no stranger to marital strife – Shawn, 56, is King's seventh wife, though he has been married eight times total. (He remarried his ex-wife Alene Akins in 1968, five years after they divorced.)

Here's a look at King's past marriages – and the state of his current one.

FREDA MILLER: 1952-53



King married his high-school sweetheart at age 18. The next year, the marriage was allegedly annulled by their parents, who didn't approve.

ANNETTE KAYE: 1961

For less than one year, King was married to Kaye, who gave birth to his first son, Larry Jr., in 1961.

ALENE AKINS: 1961-63

King was married to Akins, a former Playboy bunny, twice and adopted her son Andy during their first marriage.

MICKEY SUTPHIN: 1964-67

Sutphin, the mother of King's daughter Kelly, divorced him two years after they were married.

ALENE AKINS (AGAIN): 1968-71

During their second marriage, Akins gave birth to their daughter, Chaia.

SHARON LEPORE: 1976-83

Lepore was a production assistant and former math teacher.

JULIE ALEXANDER: 1989-92

Alexander, a businesswoman, met King in 1989. She would become his sixth wife later that year when the two married in Washington. They separated in 1990, two years before they officially divorced.

SHAWN SOUTHWICK (KING): 1997-present

King, 82, has been married to Shawn for 19 years. "It's true, and Larry is completely embarrassed and anguished by all of this," a source close to the situation tells PEOPLE. "He doesn't know what to do."

They have two sons together: Chance, 17, and Cannon, 16. In 2010, they filed for divorce, but reconciled three months after the original filing. Another insider tells PEOPLE that Shawn allegedly told paramour Richard Greene that her marriage was over.
