Lindsay Lohan Is Happier Than Ever as She Turns 30

Lindsay Lohan, with her arrests, her very public struggles with addiction and with her family, not to mention the drama that has often followed her wherever she goes, was the picture of unhappiness for years. She was pretty much a hot mess.

Fellow actress Jennifer Lawrence even joked about Lohan’s reputation for showing up late on sets during an appearance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert in December.

“I get Lindsay Lohan–grade exhaustion but without any drugs or alcohol,” the Oscar winner said in a jab that Lohan didn’t take lightly.

But now, more than a year after she was taken off probation for the first time in seven years, LiLo seems to be turning it around. The Mean Girls star appears (dare we say) more content than ever as she turns 30 on July 2.

Lindsay herself explained in a new interview with Vanity Fair that there are some things she would do differently if given the chance.

“I wouldn’t call things regrets, per se,” she said. “I can’t turn back time. But if I could, I would have listened more to my mother and gone back home to NYC earlier in life and chosen my friends more wisely.”

She’s now living in London, and much of the credit for Lindsay’s newfound happiness goes to Russian entrepreneur Egor Tarabasov. He began dating the star last year after meeting her through a mutual friend. The two clicked right away, and she even brought him home for the holidays to meet her family, although she didn’t speak about it for months.

“I do have a boyfriend, and he is a great guy,” she eventually told the U.K.’s Sun in March. “I met him in the summer. I’m really happy.” By April, multiple reports said Lindsay was set to marry Egor. She sported a noticeable emerald ring when she and her main squeeze hit the red carpet together for the first time on June 22 at the Caudwell Children’s Butterfly Ball in London.

Lindsay’s family is also supportive of the romance. Dad Michael — the subject of her 2005 song “Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)” — has gushed about the relationship.

“I’m so happy that Lindsay has found true happiness,” he told Entertainment Tonight. "It’s written all over both of them.“ (It probably also doesn’t hurt that Egor comes from serious money. He stands to inherit a Russian business empire.)

Meanwhile, Lindsay’s mom Dina has said that Egor, who’s seven years younger than her daughter, is "very mature, very worldly. They love each other.”

That’s right, Dina and Michael Lohan are on the same page these days — civil even! — which has to be another reason for Lindsay’s contentment. The family drama is now under control, perhaps because Dina and Michael were part of the cast of VH1's Family Therapy With Dr. Jenn this spring. It was a reality TV show, but it was a form of therapy, right?

Just as importantly, the Freaky Friday alum is getting better at keeping the family problems that are within her control out of the public eye. In January, she shared a post when she was upset with her mom. It read, “@dinalohan … Sometimes it sucks when your mom isn’t there for you.” A less in-control Lindsay might have left the post for all to see, but she didn’t. She deleted it.

As for her career, it’s not quite back to where it once was, but she has filmed her first movie since The Canyons back in 2013, an indie called The Shadow Within. It’s certainly a start.

There are a few other contributors to Lindsay’s happiness, friends like Rita Ora and Kourtney Kardashian, as well as Snapchat, which she loves. There’s also politics — she has some opinions about that — and spirituality.

“I have more self-control. I got into meditation,” she told the Sun in March. “I don’t feel the pressure that I used to feel."

Relocating somewhere outside of L.A. and New York has helped too. Although, as Oprah Winfrey once pointed out, it had the potential to go very wrong.

"The smartest thing I have done for myself is making the move to London,” she told the newspaper.

In more ways than one, it looks like Lindsay is poised to begin her 30s in a really good place, with plans to write a memoir, establish a charity, and spend more time acting.

“I feel great! Age is only a number, right?” she said to Vanity Fair. "I have learned a lot over time. I am in a wonderful place in life and look forward to the near and far future and projects that I am working on.”

So do we.
