Leslie Jones Is Headed to Rio to Spice Up the Olympics, Help Team USA ‘Slay All Day’

Leslie Jones likes the Olympics more than anyone we know, so it’s only right that she’s headed to Rio.

The Ghostbusters actress and Saturday Night Live personality generated so much buzz from her live-tweeting of the Olympic games that NBC, which owns U.S. broadcasting rights to the Games, took notice and invited her down for the festivities. On Monday afternoon, Jones said yes. Well, technically, she sang “Guess who’s going to Rio?” over and over while wearing an NBC Rio Olympics hat in a video she captioned “RIO BOUND BABY USA! USA!!”

The 48-year-old Tennessee native plans to bring along some good luck in her luggage. In a second clip, she’s decked out in patriotic gear and waving an American flag from her Olympic viewing spot (aka her couch) while she announces: “All right, so you know I’m going to Rio ’cause we slay all day. Slay all day. Slay all day. USA!”

She also predicted that Team USA is “gonna win everything” and “I AM AMERICAN SPIRIT!! USA!! USA!”

It remains unclear what Jones’s role will be once she arrives — commentator, celebrity ambassador, official water tester? — but she was officially invited by NBC on Sunday. Jim Bell, who serves as executive producer, extended the offer via Twitter. We like that she made the network wait for her answer, as a true slayer would.

A spokesperson for NBC Sports wouldn’t divulge to Yahoo Celebrity any plans in the works with Jones. However, it promised to soon have information to share on Jones’s exact role in the network’s coverage of the Games.

And don’t think that Jones being invited via Twitter is in any way impersonal. After all, it was on the social networking site that she got noticed in the first place. She posted a lot of videos — and ALL-CAPS TWEETS — to demonstrate her enthusiasm. But the videos were amazing. If you have to watch one, please let it be this, in which she’s wearing American flag spandex tights and tank top while draped in an American flag and holding a bunch of fake medals.

See, we told you she likes the Olympics more than you do.
