A wise person once said you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer — just ask Lady Gaga, who has agreed to sit down with Piers Morgan to discuss her (alleged, as he called it) posttraumatic stress disorder. She was in good company, though, considering the Brit host has also questioned Madonna’s sexual assault claims and had recently skewered 11-year-old Cruz Beckham for releasing a Christmas-themed single … for charity.

ICYMI, on Dec. 6, Gaga revealed she suffered from PTSD as a result of being raped as a teenager. “It is a daily effort for me, even during this album cycle, to regulate my nervous system so that I don’t panic over circumstances that to many would seem like normal life situations,” she wrote on her Born This Way Foundation website. While she admitted that she is taking medication to help manage the condition, she also argued that she believed “the most inexpensive and perhaps best medicine in the world is words. Kind words … positive words … words that help people who feel ashamed of an invisible illness to overcome their shame and feel free.”

Enter Piers Morgan and some not-so-kind words. Beneath a clip of Gaga announcing she suffers from PTSD, he tweeted, “No, soldiers returning from battlefields do. Enough of this vain-glorious nonsense.” Moments later, he added, “I come from a big military family. It angers me when celebrities start claiming ‘PTSD’ about everything to promote themselves.” At that point, his commentary turned from general to specific, as he took aim directly at Gaga and Madonna (who had discussed being raped on a rooftop during her recent Billboard Women in Music speech).

“No. Lady Gaga & Madonna have both made ALLEGATIONS of rape many years after the event. No police complaint, no charges, no court case,” he argued.

It took Gaga a few days to respond, but respond she did. “@piersmorgan would also love to talk with you about PTSD, that it’s not just a ‘military’ disorder,” she wrote. “There is a mental health youth epidemic.”

He then promised to have his people contact her people to arrange it — just in case anyone thought for one second that he might no have “people” to do that for him.

Hearing he landed an interview with the world-famous pop star, Morgan changed his tone. “I rather admire @ladygaga for agreeing to my interview after my criticisms. Should be a fascinating debate. I’ll press my meat suit,” he vowed. She didn’t like that “meat suit” comment so much and quickly wrote back, “@piersmorgan if you continue to shame me in the process of kindly agreeing to interview w/ u I’ll happily do the interview with someone else.”

Morgan then put on his big-boy pants and agreed, “If you’re big enough to do this, I’m big enough to play fair too.” Madonna has yet to respond to his comments, though she did share a shot from her Billboard Women in Music speech, declaring, “True solidarity amongst women is a power on its own.” (Piers, she might be talking to you.)

The former America’s Got Talent host has been on a bit of a roll lately, having raked David and Victoria Beckham over the coals for “pimping out” their tween son, Cruz, after he released a single called “If Everyday Was Christmas” to benefit Global Radio’s Make Some Noise charity.

After being accused of “trolling” a child, Morgan did what he does best and blasted back on Twitter. “I’m trying to protect Cruz Beckham from his fame-hungry parents,” he wrote, adding that the child should be in school.

Scooter Braun, who helped Cruz with this project (and whose name sounds familiar because he is also Justin Bieber’s agent), couldn’t help but respond. “He is an 11 year old who wanted to make a song to help other kids. Once again Piers shows why he is a jacka** and why his show was cancelled,” Braun wrote, referencing Morgan’s former CNN show.

For what it’s worth, David Beckham shared a video of Cruz hearing his song being played on the radio, and Cruz’s reaction (a mix of excitement and embarrassment) is pretty much the most adorable thing ever.

At least Morgan helped raise awareness for the charity.
