L.A. Dodgers organist plays tribute to Chester Bennington

Dieter Ruehle came through for a fan — and for Chester Bennington — ahead of Thursday’s baseball game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Atlanta Braves. The organist for Dodgers Stadium serenaded the audience with the melody to Linkin Park’s “Numb” in tribute to Bennington, the band’s frontman who died earlier that day at the age of 41.

Ruehle received a message on Twitter from a fan asking him to play a song from Linkin Park’s repertoire. “Will do. So sad,” he wrote back. Sue Joe, the Dodgers’ in-game social media coordinator, captured and tweeted video of Ruehle’s solemn rendition, which was applauded by those in the stands.

Bennington was found dead in Los Angeles on Thursday and authorities are investigating the case as a possible suicide. Tributes were made online by members of the band, as well as celebrities.

Fans at the stadium also captured video of Dodgers pitcher Brandon McCarthy warming up before the game to music from Linkin Park. One Twitter user called it “a nice gesture.”

“Chester Bennington was an artist of extraordinary talent and charisma, and a human being with a huge heart and a caring soul,” Cameron Strang, head of Linkin Park’s record label Warner Bros., said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his beautiful family, his bandmates, and his many friends. All of us at WBR join with millions of grieving fans around the world in saying: we love you Chester and you will be forever missed.”
