You know those hilarious commercials in which Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard are running around throwing muddy jeans into an already-spinning washing machine? Apparently, it’s a fairly accurate depiction of what goes down in the Bell-Shepard household.

“My husband writes all of them, so he just chooses scenes from our life and puts them into the commercial,” Bell — looking radiant in a vintage Prada dress — told Yahoo Celebrity at Saturday’s Veuve Clicquot Polo Classic in Los Angeles.

To many, Bell, 36, and Shepard, 41, appear to be the perfect couple. But when asked about her thoughts on the public deeming them as major #RelationshipGoals, the Michigan native laughed.

“I certainly love our relationship,” Bell said, admitting that it’s surprising so many see her and Shepard as the poster children for marriage. “It takes a lot of work, but we’re also very committed to being open and honest. I think we’ve somehow figured out how to bypass a lot of bulls**t and figured out how to be truly vulnerable. And I think that’s what makes us strong.”

Bell has been very forthcoming about how things aren’t always rosy and stands by her decision to disclose that she and her husband make couples therapy a part of their regular routine.

“If would be irresponsible and dishonest if we pretended like we didn’t need things like that,” she said. “We go to counseling when we need it, and we check in with each other in a genuine way. ‘How are you feeling. Do you want a date night as much as I do?’ We call each other throughout the day. We do our best not to forget that we are committed to each other.”

That’s why date nights are a must.

“Every three weeks or so we set a time to get a sitter and actually go out because we never leave our house. We have to remind ourselves on the calendar and force ourselves to get out,” Bell shared.

But when life gets busy, she and Shepard will happily settle for a good old-fashioned-TV-binge-on-the-couch night, just like the rest of us.

“After the kids go to bed, we’re very into binge-watching our DVR list,” she said. “We have really been into Last Man on Earth recently. We never miss a Frontline or a 60 Minutes. We’re devoted to [Last Week Tonight With] John Oliver.”

As for their daughters, Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 1, Bell says both of her girls are walking and talking, although not quite reciting the Bill of Rights just quite yet. She also revealed that one of her daughters is more like her and the other very much takes after her husband. “One likes rules, likes telling other people the rules, likes staying in the lines. And the other is a cuddly bear,” she revealed, admitting that she would be the rule enforcer of the group. Hey, someone has to do it!

Monday marks the couple’s third wedding anniversary. The duo exchanged vows on Oct. 17, 2013, in a no-frills ceremony at the Beverly Hills courthouse. Bell wore a black-pants-and-top ensemble in lieu of a white wedding dress, and the entire operation, including gas to get them to the altar, cost a measly $142. Looking back at what she refers to as “one of the best days” of her life, Bell says she wouldn’t change a thing. “It was perfect,” she smiles. “It was perfect because it happened!”
