Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard Travel Home to the ‘Dirty Old’ Michigan With Their Daughters
It’s a very happy reunion for Kristen Bell, Dax Shepard, and their home state of Michigan.
The couple — along with their daughters, Lincoln, 3, and Delta, 1 — traveled to the Mitten State, where they both grew up, for a visit. They’ve been soaking it all in — literally.
On Thursday, Bell shared photos from a beach trip. And while it doesn’t look like she did much swimming (the Neutrogena brand ambassador’s lipstick is on point), Shepard took the plunge.
“MICHIGAN you dirty old mitten … you still make us happy after all these years,” the Bad Moms star, 36, captioned a photo showing her and her hub grinning on the shores of Lake Michigan.
A second photo showed the former Parenthood star, 41, taking one of their kiddos for a father-daughter swim, which Bell described as “a right of passage for any Mitten baby.”

It seems they’ve been there for at least a week. That’s when Shepard posted this photo from a beachfront home, which he described as “heaven” despite a “poopy diaper.” (It’s so fun to play I Spy in this photo … A green toenail, a pair of polka-dot socks, a teapot, some ice cream, a few overturned chairs, and, yes, a used diaper.)

Bell and Shepard grew up in the Metro Detroit area, but it took them moving to Los Angeles to meet. Though Bell says their first encounter, at a dinner party, was “not electric,” sparks flew when they met again two weeks later at a hockey game, where the L.A. Kings were playing the Detroit Red Wings. And it turns out, connecting later in life was a good thing.
“We would not have been friends in high school,” Bell, who started dating Shepard in 2007 and married him six years later, told Flare magazine in 2013. “He was a drug addict and he was wild, and I was very much a good girl who went to Catholic school. He is also five years older than I am, and he lived in Milford, which is a bit more drive-your-tractor-to-the-7-Eleven-type Michigan, and I was closer to downtown Detroit.”
We can only hope they make a lip dub of their latest vacation like they did when they went to Africa. May we suggest a little Eminem?
