Kate Beckinsale teaches Stephen Colbert to speak Russian

Kate Beckinsale had a lot to talk about when she stopped by The Late Show on Wednesday night: the new Underworld movie, her “fratty” New Year’s Eve, and Instagram pictures of her cat in goofy costumes. But the main thing host Stephen Colbert wanted from Beckinsale was lessons in speaking Russian.

The actress said she learned the language while studying at Oxford University, and Colbert had his producer write up a list of phrases to say in Russian on the show. The first was simple enough: “No, I will not give you my Wi-Fi password.” The second contained some major political relevance for the current climate: “Mr. Putin, please put on a shirt” (“You’ll need that,” quipped Beckinsale). And the third was also related to the incoming president-elect: “The best borscht is made in Trump Tower.” Unable to read Cyrillic, Colbert had Beckinsale teach him the second phrase entirely by pronunciation.
