Setting the record straight! After an extra on the set of The Leftovers made claims to Page Six that Justin Theroux had made a tasteless joke about 9/11, the actor’s rep responded in a statement.

“As a New Yorker and someone who has lived downtown for over 20 years, Justin would not make jest of 9/11,” his rep told Page Six of the story.

When the original story was reported, the extra claimed that Theroux, 44, called 9/11 “the best thing that happened to New Yorkers,” noting that he was able to get a good deal on rent in the city after the 2001 terrorist attacks.

These rumors come after The League star Steve Rannazzisi came under fire in September for making up a story that he escaped from the World Trade Center during 9/11.

“I know what I did was terrible, and I know that I hurt a lot of people — people that lost people, people that helped people survive,” Rannazzisi told Howard Stern in October. “And those people are the people that I truly am sorry [to]. I feel awful that my dumb mistake created a story that hit a wound that should never have been touched."
