‘Jurassic World 2’: First photo stares into the bones of the beast

Life, uh, continues to find a way. As director J.A. Bayona (A Monster Calls) proceeds filming Jurassic World 2, the first photo from the production has dropped online. But who is the mystery character at the center of it all?

The image reveals a young girl in a museum. With her back turned to the lens, she stares into the gaping eyes of a triceratops skull with more displays visible on the sides and in the back. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard return for the sequel, along with new faces like Ted Levine, Justice Smith, and Geraldine Chaplin. But the identity of this other actress is unclear.

Bayona and producer Colin Trevorrow, who helmed the first Jurassic World, tweeted the image on Wednesday. “So excited to show you this!! A first look of the new Jurassic adventure,” Bayona wrote.

According to a casting call that was making the rounds online, the studio was allegedly looking to fill the role of a 9-year-old girl named Lucy. Could this be her?

Howard seemed to tweet a behind-the-scenes photo of the girl on the film’s eighth day into filming. “‘Though she be but little, she is fierce!’ Inspired by this kind, intelligent, & inquisitive little lady,” she wrote.

Plot details are equally mysterious, but Trevorrow had teased a story involving something B.D. Wong’s Dr. Wu said. “Dr. Wu says in the film, when he’s warning Dr. Mesrani, ‘We’re not always going to be the only ones who can make a dinosaur,'” he said. “I think that’s an interesting idea that even if we don’t explore fully in this film, there is room for this universe to expand.”

Jurassic World 2 will stomp into theaters on June 22, 2018.
