Jennifer Lopez Takes a Feminist Stand in Empowering New Video for 'Ain't Your Mama'
Jennifer Lopez dropped the video for her new song “Ain’t Your Mama” on Friday morning, and she’s not mincing words when it comes to the song’s feminist message.
The 46-year-old singer plays six different oppressed women in the colorful video – from an under-appreciated 1950s housewife to a 1980s power suit-wearing secretary – all taking a stand against the men in their lives.
“Look, I don’t have to tell you things are bad,” Lopez says in the clip. “Taken for granted, ignored, overlooked, under-appreciated – we have a big big problem ladies.”
The former American Idol judge then asks women stand up for their rights. “You’ve got to get mad,” she says. “Get up out of your chair, go to the window, open your door, stick your head out and yell.”

The video ends with a modern-day Lopez dancing on the street with an army of women, reminding the men in their lives that they “ain’t your mama.”
Lopez isn’t the only one calling women into action during “Ain’t Your Mama.” Audio of iconic quotes from presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton, Oscar winner Patricia Arquette, and feminist icon Gloria Steinem can also be heard in the video.
