In the days before the Inauguration, the Women's March on Washington, and the possible end of healthcare as we know it, Lena Dunham produced a video about the history of Planned Parenthood, narrated by Cecile Richards, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Schumer, Mindy Kaling. The goal of the clip was to outline what the country has to lose by demonizing the organization. It's a great deal, and not just because a group of well-respected, female celebrities said so.

Donald Trump was elected president partly on a "Defund Planned Parenthood" platform, and many Congressional leaders are itching to yank women's healthcare from the federal budget and complete some sort of moral crusade. But with or without Planned Parenthood, women will keep needing basic healthcare services, including abortions. If they have to do it without Planned Parenthood, many of those abortions will be alleyway dealings: illegal, dangerous, and deadly, just like in the days before Roe v. Wade.

Accordingly, Planned Parenthood saw a 900 percent increase in requests for IUDs, a form of birth control that can outlast at least one Trump administration, and tens of thousands of women (and men) will march on Washington-as well as other cities-to protest the new administration.

Last week, as Richards told Trevor Noah on The Daily Show, "Planned Parenthood is more popular than the entire United States Congress. And I think if there were more members of Congress who could get pregnant, we wouldn't be arguing about birth control."

It's so true it hurts.
