Jennifer Lawrence Apologizes for Offending With Butt-Scratching Story

Jennifer Lawrence has heard you. The Passengers star issued an apology for that butt-scratching story that stirred up controversy earlier this week.

In a Facebook post titled “From Jen, to the internet,” the actress wrote a message to her fans. “I meant absolutely no disrespect to the Hawaiian people,” she states. “I really thought that I was being self deprecating about the fact that I was ‘the curse’, but I understand the way it was perceived was not funny and I apologize if I offended anyone.”

During an appearance on the Graham Norton Show, Lawrence recounted how she almost killed a crew member while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in Hawaii. They were shooting a scene on sacred stones and were warned not to disturb them, but nature called.

“There were sacred rocks, and they were, I don’t know, ancestors, who knows — they were sacred — and you’re not supposed to sit on them because you’re not supposed to expose your genitalia to them,” Lawrence recounted.

Jen was filming in a wetsuit, and apparently had an itch she had to scratch and used the rocks.

“They were so good for butt itching!” she laughed. “One rock that I was butt-scratching on ended up coming loose … and it was a giant boulder, and it rolled down this mountain and almost killed our sound guy!”

She continued, “It was this huge dramatic deal, and all the Hawaiians were like, ‘Oh, my God. It’s the curse!’ … and I’m over in the corner going, ‘I’m your curse. I wedged it loose with my ass.’”

While the story drew laughs from the audience, many people did not find it amusing:

The apology still wasn’t enough for some.
