Rocker Jack White has been a little busy in the last few years winning Grammys, touring the country, and, of course, maintaining his eccentric look. So when he stopped by the annual potluck dinner in his Memphis neighborhood, the people who live on his street didn’t even recognize him.

Travel writer Jedidiah Jenkins shared a photo that he said his sister texted him from the get-together as well as the story behind it.

“My mom helps put on a neighborhood potluck in front of my childhood home. Our little dead-end street is populated primarily with older and quiet people,” he wrote. “At the bottom of our street, there is a large gated historic home shrouded in trees. We’ve never really spotted that neighbor. But we have from time to time heard guitar coming from the garage. This year, without warning, the occupant decided to come mingle with the neighbors.” (No word on what White contributed to the feast.)

Jenkins added that many neighbors had “no idea” about White’s celebrity status. “‘Jack White? nice to meet you,” Jenkins wrote. “[White] apologized for traveling so much and missing out over the years."

To be fair, the crowd didn’t exactly look like the type that regularly rocks out to "Seven Nation Army.”
