In Her Own Words: What Kind of Girlfriend Will Meghan Markle Be for Prince Harry?

Who is Meghan Markle?

“I’m an actress, a writer, the Editor-in-Chief of my lifestyle brand The Tig, a pretty good cook and a firm believer in handwritten notes,” the Suits star writes.

She’s also the girlfriend of Prince Harry.

Now that the couple’s romance has been confirmed (and she’s met Prince Charles!), we’re taking a look into the kind of partner Markle will be for the royal. Thanks to her love of social media and her lifestyle website, the LA-born actress has given us major insight into what makes her fit for a prince!

She’ll write Harry love notes — and expect the same in return!

“If given the option between fingers to keyboard, or pen to paper, I will always choose the latter,” she writes. “Because amongst the throwback things that I love (a ’62 porsche speedster à la Dylan McKay in 90210, a bevy of Vargas girls, a Busby Berkeley film, or cooking over a charcoal grill), what trumps all is my love of writing (and receiving) a handwritten note.”

“I am a gal who just loves getting mail. Oh my god, I absolutely relish it. I know my mailman’s name, I race to the door when mail comes (usually just fliers or bills), but I always hold out hope that there will be a letter. A sweet letter. And that I will have the tactile experience of un-creasing the paper, reciting the words, and holding someone’s thoughts in my hands.”

She’ll be affectionate.

“Let’s discuss the simple pleasures in life: holding someone’s hand so seamlessly that you can’t decipher their fingers from your own, fresh baked bread smeared with briny French butter, a smile that says you are endlessly adored, the sizzle and smell of sautéing onions, and finding the perfect book.”

She’ll share her favorite books with him.

“There’s simply nothing like making that first fire in the fireplace (or hey, just lighting a candle) and cracking open a new novel where endless possibilities abound. Because whether it’s to escape, to inform, to inspire, or to just turn off the world while you sit by a pool, I love getting lost in a good book.”

She’ll be the picture-perfect princess.

“Perhaps it’s the girly girl in me. Maybe it’s the fact that if given the choice between punk and pretty, I will always vote for pretty. For women looking like ladies. For the opportunity to wow with class and grace and fairytale level ball gown beauty.”

And she won’t take the royal lifestyle for granted.

“I’ve never wanted to be a lady who lunches — I’ve always wanted to be a woman who works.”

“My father was the lighting director on two television shows as I was growing up. Despite the contrast of my two worlds growing up, there was a powerful commonality: both my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot – buying turkeys for homeless shelters at Thanksgiving, delivering meals to patients in hospice care, donating any spare change in their pocket to those asking for it, and performing quiet acts of grace – be it a hug, a smile, or a pat on the back to show ones in need that they would be alright. This is what I grew up seeing, so that is what I grew up being: a young adult with a social consciousness to do what I could, and to, at the very least, speak up when I knew something was wrong.”

She’ll value her independence.

“There are so many important things you should do for yourself — to flex your independence and allow yourself the opportunity for greater growth. After all, they say happiness begins with self-love. And enjoying your own company is the very best start for that adventure.that the now iconic saying from Jerry Maguire  — ‘You complete me’ — frankly, isn’t true. You are complete with or without a partner. You are enough just as you are.”

She’ll get him into the yogi lifestyle.

“I was born and raised in Los Angeles, a California girl who lives by the ethos that most things can be cured with either yoga, the beach, or a few avocados.”

She’ll cook yummy meals.

“Some days you have a bite of food that makes you go ‘woah.’ Your eyes widen, you look down at the plate, almost pushing things around with your fork to see what’s making it so special. You take another bite, smiling as you do so, almost laughing, because it’s just so damn good.”

She’ll plan romantic date nights.

“There’s nothing like a jewel box sized restaurant to add to the intimacy and coziness of a night out — because, let’s be honest — some the best meals of our lives have less to do with the food specifically, and more to do with the overall experience; the space being high on the list.”

She’ll take their love online — in a thoughtful way.

“With the inundation of social media accounts, streamlining your feed to include content that feeds your brain should be at the top of your priority list. Because yes, of course we all find ourselves peckish for pop cultural tidbits and sometimes salacious sound bites, but the true hunger should be for information that feeds the brain and the soul.”

She’ll be open and honest.

“It’s often so easy in our culture and society to put up walls, to let ourselves harden in order to protect ourselves from the intensity of our day to day lives. The question becomes, ‘Why even bother being sensitive?’ Well, let me give you an answer that might be a little different: to connect with magic.”

She’ll give good birthday gifts.

“It’s easy to grab another T-shirt for your man — but you’ll likely steal it for PJs anyway. Instead, give him something creative that he’ll actually enjoy.”

She’ll plan fun trips.

“I have the travel bug not a week goes by without me finding my derrière on a plane.”

She’ll be romantic.

“ think it’s safe to say that we all fall in love a little bit everyday. Be it with your partner, your crush, even a person in passing that energetically makes your heart go pitter pat. Whatever the case may be, when you meet someone that makes you beam, you must take note.”

And she’ll expect an epic Valentine’s Day.

“Hook, line and sinker, I am such a sucker for Valentine’s Day. Without fail, every February 14th, I wake up feeling like I’m immersed in a Robert Doisneau photo, waiting with bated breath to be dipped into a kiss. This is all happening in black and white, of course. And in Paris, if I had my way. But delusions of francophile grandeur aside, Valentine’s Day is special wherever you happen to find yourself. And in terms of gifts, be it breakfast in bed, a sweet love note, or a single flower, it really is the thought that counts.”
