Gwen Stefani has moved on from Gavin Rossdale — hellooo, Blake Shelton! — but there’s still curiosity about their divorce, specifically what led to their split after 13 years of marriage. The “Used to Love You” singer is revealing a few more details about their “unexpected” parting of ways in a new interview.

Talking with KIIS FM’s JoJo Wright on Monday, the blonde said that while their divorce was announced in August, things came to a head one night in February.

“I had been writing [new music] because my life blew up," The Voice mentor, 46, said. "Everybody knows that my life blew up last February. I’d just been dealing with that. Unexpected. I was going along thinking that was going to be the rest of my life and it’s not. I don’t know what happened.”

She continued, “There was one night, the epicenter of the whole thing — that’s the most I can say about that — and the next day I wrote the chorus to 'Used to Love You.”

Stefani who has three sons with Rossdale — Kingston, 9; Zuma, 7; and Apollo, nearly 2 — said she channeled her emotions into her songwriting.

“The first day that I went into the studio, I didn’t want to get out of bed,” she admitted. “You know when you’re so down that you just don’t want to do anything? I went to the studio and I wrote a song. And it wasn’t just writing a song to a track or something. It was like sitting at a piano with a guy I didn’t know and an engineer that’s sitting there who I didn’t know, and all this stuff is going down they didn’t know.”

The particulars of Stefani and Rossdale’s divorce were hashed almost immediately after their split announcement. In October, she was linked to her The Voice co-star Shelton and they confirmed last week that they are dating. There was some flirting Monday night when they both appeared on their show for the first time since their relationship news was made public.

While the No Doubt frontwoman has moved on, Rossdale doesn’t seem like he’s there yet. He’s still wearing his wedding ring. The reason? For their children.

“He wears it for the kids because it makes them feel good,” an insider — probably the Bush singer’s publicist — told People. “There is an ongoing conversation with the boys to make sure they are as happy and comfortable as possible.”

It’s a peculiar comment because Gwen hasn’t been wearing her ring. So the kids are apparently fine with their mom not wearing hers, but not dad? We’re not sure what to make of it all and, sadly, the motivations behind celeb exes wearing their wedding rings wasn’t covered in Psych 101 back when we were in college.

It doesn’t take an expert though to see that Stefani is happy. New man, new music, new spring in her step.
