Gigi Hadid Takes on Body Critics: Yes, I Have Boobs, a Butt, and Thighs

Don’t hate Gigi Hadid because she’s beautiful — or a tad curvier than your average runway model.

Reacting to negative comments about her appearance on Instagram, the 20-year-old model took a break from Paris Fashion Week preparations — and selfies — and posted a long message to her critics on Monday, telling them to quit hating because she’s not having it.

“No, I don’t have the same body type as the other models in shows. No, I don’t think I’m the best at any given show. Yes, I want to have a unique walk but I also know I have to improve. No, I’m not the first or the last model of my type in the industry,” Joe Jonas’s girlfriend wrote, addressing some of the criticism directly. “You can make up all the reasons you think I am where I am, but really, I’m a hard worker that’s confident in myself, one that came at a time where the fashion industry was ready for a change.”

Kendall Jenner’s bff — who has a whopping 6.4 million followers (for reference, Reese Witherspoon has 4 million, Mariah Carey has 2.5) — continued, “I’m just doing my job. I represent a body image that wasn’t accepted in high-fashion before, and I’m very lucky to be supported by the designers, stylists, and editors that I am: ones that know this is fashion, it’s art; it can never stay the same. It’s 2015. But if you’re not one of those people, don’t take your anger out on me. Yes, I have boobs, I have abs, I have a butt, I have thighs, but I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m fitting into the sample sizes.”

The blond, blue-eyed beauty, who’s the daughter of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills model Yolanda Foster, told her haters that their silly social media remarks aren’t going to keep her off the runway — and they definitely don’t make her feel bad about herself.

“Your mean comments don’t make me want to change my body, they don’t make me want to say no to the designers that ask me to be in their shows, and they definitely don’t change the designers opinions of me,” Hadid wrote. “If they want me in their show, I’m in it; if they don’t, I’m not. That’s just how it is and how it will be. If you don’t like it, don’t follow me. Don’t watch me, cause I’m not going anywhere. If I didn’t have the body I do, I wouldn’t have the career I do. I love that I can be sexy. I’m proud of it.”

Hadid ended by suggesting that they channel their negative energy somewhere else.

“I hope everyone gets to a place in their life where they’d rather talk about the things that inspire them over the things that bring others down,” she wrote. “At least be open if not part of the change, because it’s undeniably happening.”

Hadid has been all over the runways for the last year, but especially this last month. She was a fixture in many New York Fashion Week shows, including Tommy Hilfiger and Anna Sui. Then it was off to Milan, where she walked for Versace, and now she’s gearing up for Paris Fashion Week. She’s also starring in a Balmain ad campaign along with her sister Bella.

So, like she said, she’s “not going anywhere.” And stories like this will only push her further into the spotlight, especially when she makes good points, as she certainly does here.
