George Clooney Is a Superhero — for Shelter Dogs Everywhere

It’s one stray at a time for George Clooney.

Two months after the superstar and his wife, Amal, adopted a basset hound named Millie, the couple, who also are puppy parents to turkey meatball lover Louis, brought home a shelter pup for his parents. Nate the Terrier, who had been living out his dog days at LuvFurMutts in Fairfield, Ohio, has relocated to Chez Nick and Nina Clooney in nearby Augusta, Kentucky.

The adoption took place at Christmas, but the non-profit waited to share the story as “not to infringe upon the Clooneys holidays.” According to the organization’s website, Nate came to the shelter, along with 11 other dogs, from the home a hoarder last year. He had birth defects — including “a leg that swayed” making him walk “like a hyena” — and his ribs were showing. When he was taken to adoption events, “people would stare and kids would point.”

It is the perfect Hollywood story though. George’s parents recently lost their dog of 10 years, so their famous son started poking around on the Internet for a new pal for them. He stumbled upon videos of Nate, which he watched with his parents. Despite Nate’s injuries, Nick said, “It sounds like he gets around just as good as we do anymore.” George secretly arranged for his assistant to adopt the dog for his parents and have it delivered on Christmas.

Their reaction? “Nina cried a little when she opened the door and Nate was put into her arms. She was very surprised,” said the website. She cried again when she read a card from George and Amal.

“They could have any dog in the world, but they chose to adopt a dog who was crippled and could have been with LuvFurMutts for life,” the story said.

George and Amal covered more than the adoption fees for Nate. They made a donation to the charity that also “covered more than Nate’s previous surgery expenses. They had no idea of those previous surgeries nor did we know Nate’s heroes the Clooney’s would be coming soon when Nate had the procedures. What a gift!”

Last summer, George and Amal enjoyed a fun trip to his hometown, visiting all of his favorite spots — from bakeries to basketball courts. Maybe next visit, we’ll see photos of the couple doing the same … but with Nate the Terrier in tow.
