Gennifer Flowers Will Reportedly Not Attend Debate as Hillary Clinton Remains Unfazed

Gennifer Flowers, the one-time mistress of former President Bill Clinton, has accepted Donald Trump’s invite to attend the first presidential debate, but a source from the Republican nominee’s campaign says it’s unlikely that she’ll actually attend.

Fox News reported Sunday that a Trump insider said that the businessman wouldn’t actually invite any special guests that highlight the Clinton family’s personal lives.

In response to news that rival Mark Cuban would be at the New York-based debate, Trump tweeted Saturday, “If dopey Mark Cuban of failed Benefactor fame wants to sit in the front row, perhaps I will put Gennifer Flowers right alongside of him!”

Flowers, a model and actress, claimed in 1992 that she had a 12-year, consensual sexual relationship with the former President during his tenure as Arkansas governor.

Although he denied the affair at first, the President eventually admitted that he and Flowers had one sexual encounter in 1977.

The now-66-year-old responded to Trump’s invite, Saturday, writing on Twitter, “Hi Donald. You know I’m in your corner and will definitely be at the debate!”

“Hillary Clinton plans on using the debate to discuss the issues that make a difference in people’s lives,” Jennifer Palmieri, Clinton’s communications director, said in a statement to PEOPLE. “It’s not surprising that Donald Trump has chosen a different path.”

The former Secretary of State’s camp thinks Trump’s latest move will backfire with voters, and take away from the Presidential image he hopes to convey, instead showing how he’s easily provoked, a Clinton official tells PEOPLE.

Clinton is unfazed by the move, the source says, and is ready to show that she can handle whatever insults or gimmicks he may attempt.
