Funeral Held for 10-Year-Old Caleb Schwab Killed on Water Slide

Friends and family came together on Friday for the memorial service of 10-year-old Caleb Schwab who was tragically killed on Verrück (German for "crazy" or "insane,") the world's tallest water slide.

During the service, his father, Kansas state Rep. Scott Schwab, told those in attendance that his goal is to get to an emotional place where he thinks of his son with joy instead of the sorrow for what he lost.

"We're committed to getting there together," he said from the stage.

Nearly a week ago Caleb was with his entire family at the Schlitterbahn WaterPark when the horrible accident occurred.

As people walked into the auditorium they saw photos and videos of Caleb playing basketball and spending quality time with his brothers Issac, Alex and Nathan.

"Talk about a short time he had with Caleb," Schwab said about Issac, his youngest son, "but there wasn't a moment wasted."

He also talked about being very proud of Alex—"who lost a big brother who was supposed to help him on the bus this year."

Addressing his third son, Nathan, Schwab said it's "not the way I wanted you to enter manhood but you've done very well."

He added: "I am humbled to call you my son."

He addressed his son's friends and thanked them for "helping shape his character and building memories that we will cherish.”

The grieving father told the audience that when his kids were born, "Nathan was my pleasure, Caleb was my joy, Alex was my delight and Issac is my treasure."

He also shed light on who Caleb was as a person – even as a younger boy.

After Scott was laid off from his job some years back, Caleb, then just five-years-old, said to him "Dad, I'm so sorry that happened to you."

"[It's like] I was the kid who'd scraped my knee at that moment, and he held me. That was Caleb," he said.

Scott placed a kiss on his sons portrait before he walked off the stage.

He asked those who had ever been on a field with Caleb to join him for a huddle that ended with a chant for Caleb.
