Fox schedules two Marvel movies for 2017 and 2018, Gambit pulled from October release date

Following the success of the R-rated Deadpool, 20th Century Fox is making plans to further its superhero universe. The studio has scheduled two untitled Marvel movies for release on Oct. 6, 2017, and Jan. 12, 2018.

Simultaneously, a rep for Fox confirmed that Gambit has been “unset” from its release date. Directed by Rupert Wyatt ( Rise of the Planet of the Apes) and starring Channing Tatum as the card-slinging mutant, the film was originally set for release on Oct. 6 of this year.

It’s possible Fox merely pushed Gambit to the 2017 release, since the film has yet to begin filming. While comic book fans speculate what could be coming for those slots, the post-credits scene for Deadpool teased Cable for Deadpool 2, a sequel that seems all but assured given the first film’s status as the highest-grossing X-Men movie in the U.S.

Elsewhere, Jeff Wadlow ( Kick-Ass 2) was reportedly developing an X-Force movie for Fox, and the studio previously announced an adaptation of New Mutants from Josh Boone ( The Fault in Our Stars).

In the meantime, the latest superhero installment from the studio will come this May 27 with X-Men: Apocalypse.
