The saga of Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez’s friendship is as long and twisted as an American Horror Story season finale. The two grew up together and got their feet wet (literally) in the industry together co-starring on Barney & Friends.

But then they grew up and things got complicated, as they do.

In 2010, the friends had some sort of a falling out, not speaking until 2014. Then, that same year, Demi unfollowed Selena on social media (which is the teen equivalent of RSVPing yes to your wedding and then not showing). When asked about it at the time, Demi said, “I think it’s just one of those things where people change and people grow apart.”

Cut to three weeks ago, when Demi tweets a selfie of the two together and it seemed all is well in the kingdom that purple dinosaur built.

Or is it?

In a just released cover story for Complex magazine, Lovato was asked about her friendship with Gomez and whether the two still speak. “Nope” was her short answer. But, Demi says, it’s really more an issue of timing.

“Interviews are done months and months before the issue is published,” Lovato tweeted. “[A] lot can change between then and now. Don’t read into the bulls–t.”
